Carbon emissions a severe threat to world’s oceans

March 15, 2012

At yesterday’s All Affiliate Conference, Prof. Melissa Booth of University of Georgia’s research station off the Atlantic Coast showed how an overdose of carbon dioxide in the oceans can severely deform microscopic life forms that are the building block of all fisheries. Translation: when we burn fossil fuels, we are destroying ocean life. Attendees reported they were impressed, provoked and “scared as hell” by the information in Prof. Booth’s presentation, “Changing Climate, Changing Oceans: What Does it Mean for Citizens of Virginia?” We hope to post a pdf version of the presentation on this website.
